New Service Spring 2022: HydraFacial

The HydraFacial has been described as “the sweet spot – it’s more than a basic spa facial, but less than a laser treatment”. The procedure utilizes hydradermabrasion, a gentler approach to skin re-surfacing. Rather than rough crystals and diamond tips, used in microdermabrasion, the specialized spiral tip of the instrument uses water to wash away impurities on the skin’s surface. Moisturize, brighten, plump, and protect your skin as state of the art technology allows us to cleanse, exfoliate, and infuse the skin with intensive serums.

We’ve updated this service since it’s introduction, incorporating a body massage, higher quality solutions, and all natural Éminence Organic Skin Care facial products. We’ve also added the option of incorporating the Éminence Arctic Berry chemical peel treatment.

New Services with InMode

Glow Skin Care & Laser has partnered with InMode to introduce a couple new services we are very excited about. First is the Morpheus8 – a microneedling upgrade! The key difference between microneedling and the Morpheus8 is added benefit of fractionated energy or radio frequencies. Apply this added energy to the treatment enhances the already revered benefits of microneedling while allowing us to treat fat layers beneath the skin. Treating the fat layers causes a shrinking effect which allows for contouring the fcae, jowel area, and other areas the treatment is applied to.

We are very excited to begin booking these services at the end of April!

On the hunt for BB Glow Treatment in Edmonton? Look no further!

BB Glow Treatment offers more immediate visible benefits than most facial treatments. It provides light coverage and long-lasting beauty without overstimulating the skin. The results are visible wrinkle improvement, even skin tone, and glow all at the same time.

The BB Glow Treatment utilizes a tinted serum (available in a range of skin shades) and nano-needling methods to insert subtle pigment into the first layers of skin. Similar to micro and nano needling, serum – created for this very purpose – is applied to the skin and pushed deep within the epidermis using a handheld device for semi-permanent glow, creating the appearance of even skin tone and lessens the appearance of discolouration and uneven tone.

Similar to most skin care treatments, results increase with repeated sessions. We recommend 3 sessions, each 1 month apart for optimal and extended coverage lasting 8-10 months.

Just a heads up! If you are experiencing heavy acne and breakouts, we do recommend getting a facial 1 week prior to your BB Glow Treatment for optimal results.

With Glow Skin Care & Laser …. YES!

It just depends on the laser that is being used. Some clinics have a couple different options. Here at Glow Skin Care & Laser we use a Nd: YAG SmartEpil Laser. Nd: YAG is just an acronym for the crystal which is used in this type of laser – neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet. The Nd:YAG is used for a number things, and in our salon we use it for Laser Hair Removal and for the treatment of spider veins and broken capillaries.

The Nd:YAG laser is effective and safe on all skin types with limited side effects when used correctly. This includes skin types IV through VI which are considered dark brown to black skin. It is particularly preferred for darker skin types as it’s wavelengthof 1064 nmis able to penetrate and access deeper follicles, “with a greater respect for the skin due to lower absoprtion” of the laser by the melanin in the skin (FYI: Laser Hair Removal works by shooting the hair with a laser wherein the heat is absorbed by the follicle -burning it!). The Nd:YAG’s ability to safeguard the skin stuctures surrounding the follicle results in fewer side effects such as burnt skin – which may occur more frequently when using other laser hair removal devices with less selective heat absoption.

What is Microneedling? You may ask. If you’re a visual learner, check out the gallery above!

The Science of it All

Microneedling is a procedure that allows us to treat skin issues beyond the epidermis (outer layer of skin). The treatment targets the dermis which is the thick layer beneath the surface that makes up 90% of our skin’s thickness. Accessing and treating the dermis allows us to efficently address issues such as fine-lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, sun/age spots, sagging skin, stretch marks and so much more. My favourite part of this procedure is the benefits do not end when you leave the salon and complete healing (there is a 2-3 day recovery window), but will continue benefit your skin for weeks and even months following your appointment.

The microneedling procedure utilizes an electronic pen-like device with disposable tips containing a number of tiny needles (pictured to the right). A spring allows the device to push forward the needles at an adjustable length, from 0.5mm-2.5mm.

The purpose of the device is to repetitively push the needles into the skin creating “micro-injuries” in the skin which create channels through the epidermis into the dermis. The creation of these channels causes connective tissues cells to produce rapidly, creates a reaction within the skin that releases protein and potassium, and causes several growth factors to be released. As the channels heal, collagen and elastin are produced within the skin in the following weeks.

What is microneedling needle example

Collagen and elastin are protiens that contributes to stronger, healther skin. Collagen is an essential for strengthening our skin, bones, muscles, and joints. Increased collagen within the skin creates a youthful, full look as it strengthens the skin cells. Elastin plays a roll in the resilience of elasticity in our body. In our skin it effects its ability to “bounce back”. Collagen also plays a roll in the elasticity of the skin.

Essentially, through microneedling, we are able to force the skin to produce new skin cells as well as beneficial growth factors and proteins that support strong, healthy, skin in a way that is non-invasive and allows for more continuous results.

Full Body Laser Hair Removal https://www.glowskincareandlaser.com/full-body-laser-hair-removal/ Mon, 17 Jan 2022 23:35:18 +0000 https://www.glowskincareandlaser.com/?p=1603 The post Full Body Laser Hair Removal appeared first on Glow Skin Care and Laser.

You’ve asked, and we’ve listened! Often when speaking with perspective clients on the phone I receive questions about full body laser hair removal. Until now we haven’t included full body specifically in our pricing for a couple of reasons, which I will further detail. We are very excited to add full body laser hair removal to our services however I wanted to take a moment to share some information from our own experiences with providing services to ensure our clients are able to achieve they hair removal goals and get their money’s worth!

What is Considered “Full Body” Laser Hair Removal?

Our first thought is that “full body” means something a little different to everyone. Some consider it just the arms and legs while others are ready to commit to zapping everything from their forehead to their toes.

In our Glow Skin Care & Laser Full Body package, we have designated the following areas: full arms, underarms, Brazilian, and full legs. We are flexible too! If you would like to add, subtract, or swap an area, we’d be happy to make adjustments.

Full Body Laser Hair Removal Can Be a Big COMMITMENT

One reason we have had our reservations regarding listing full body is it is expensive and time consuming! If we were to literally laser an entire body – face, chest, stomach, back, arms, underarms, Brazilian, legs – it would cost about $1000 per session, taking about 3.5 hours to complete the session. 3.5 hours every 4 weeks! In our experience, we have found, the price and time commitment of large laser packages can hinder the laser hair removal process.

Time

For example, some clients will be gung-ho, ready to be hairless, but after their first couple appointments find it hard to come in every four weeks for a whole hour, hour and a half (now double, even triple, that time). Completing laser hair removal within the proper time frame is key – as we are trying to re-damage the hair follicles within he hair’s natural regrowth cycles. As laser hair removal appointments get pushed back, follicles begin to heal, diminishing effect of the completed sessions.

Price

Big pricey packages can also be hard to maintain once it is time to repurchase a package for complete results. After committing so much time and money to their hair removal goals, some clients have been left to choose between which body parts they can afford to complete and which ones are left to the wayside. We want to see you COMPLETE ALL your laser hair removal, hence why I am writing this.

Our Recommendation

If available time and pricing is something you are unsure about we recommend purchasing packages for 1-3 areas at a time. It may seem like it takes longer, but laser hair removal is all about the long game. We want your hair GONE and GONE FOREVER. You will save time and money by taking your laser hair removal SLOW and being CONSISTENT.

Full Body Laser Package

With all that being said, you are able to make an informed decision on choosing a laser hair removal package for you! Without further ado, here is our FULL BODY LASER HAIR REMOVAL PACKAGE:

Includes: Full Arms, Underarms, Brazilian, Full Legs

Appointment Duration: 2.5 Hours

Price: 1 Session $540

6 Sessions $2199 (Save $500)

Lip Blushing Tattoo The Latest in Permanent Make Up https://www.glowskincareandlaser.com/lip-blushing-tattoo/ Wed, 15 Dec 2021 21:08:17 +0000 https://www.glowskincareandlaser.com/?p=1474 The post Lip Blushing Tattoo The Latest in Permanent Make Up appeared first on Glow Skin Care and Laser.

]]>

Lip Blushing Tattoos are the latest in mainstream permanent make up. Many of us don’t want to look like we’re wearing lip stick 24/7 but a LIP BLUSH?! Count us in.

Similar to the microblading technique– micropowdering – lip blushing allows us to apply beautifully crafted pigments to the lip giving a subtle and natural colouring. The process even creates a more definite lip line, giving the appearance of more full and delicious lips. With a range of colours to choose from, lip blushing is for anyone looking to add a little UMPH to their fresh face look.

The lip blushing tattoo procedure does require healing, similarly to other tattoos, permanent makeup and other procedures. In my experience the healing takes about a week with attentive application of moisturizers and vitamin gel. Immediately following the procedure there will be some welling, but it will reduce by the next day, leaving you with INTENSE colour that will fade over healing (just like microblading). A 6 week touch up is recommended for best results and colour.

We recommend to all of our clients coming for the lip blushing tattoo to stop by their nearest drug store and pick up some Aquaphor for added moisture during the healing process.

Provided with adequate numbing for the lips, the procedure is comfortable however you will feel some scratching and pinching. Numbing cream is applied prior to the procedure and during to ensure your lip blushing tattoo is a comfortable experience. The procedure length is 2 hours which includes 45 minutes of numbing.

Tina Davies has created this excellent resource video for individuals interested in learning more about lip blushing.

NanoFacial

Pricing: $110

NanoFacial is our newest procedure being introduced at Glow Skin Care & Laser. This facial treatment utilizes nanoneedling technology to induce collagen and elastin productions within the skin as well as delivers nourshing active ingredients such as Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C to layers below the skin’s surface.

Nanoneedling, also referred to as Nano Infusion, is similar to microneedling, however, instead of creating punctures with small needles, the nanoneedles are microscopic prisms that create transdermal micro-channels allowing the handheld device to push nourishing ingredients deep within the skin. Differing from microneedling, nanoneedling is pain-free, requiring no numbing or down time.

The results of the Nanofacial include up to 97% of product absorption which brightens dull skin leaving you glowing. This facial treatment also addresses fine-lines, wrinkles, acne scars and sun damage and it stimulates natural skin regeneration processes.

Glow Skin Care & Laser’s NanoFacial is completed in 5 steps:

1. Facial Cleanse

2. Microdermabrasion to remove exposed and damaged skin layers

3. Nano-infusion with micro-channelling (Nanoneedling) for 20 minutes using clinical grade Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C serums

4. Soothing Hydration Mask

5. Red light treatment for added support for fine-lines, wrinkles, and skin tightening.

NanoFacial with HydraCleanse $130

Looking for a complete refresh of your skin while also reaping the benefits of collagen inductions and total product absorption? We suggest adding the HydraCleanse to your Nanofacial appointment! Using a swirling water vortex with suction, we are able to cleanse even the most stubborn grime from your pores while introducing hydration solutions to the skin. The combination of hydration, microdermabrasion, and nanoneedling is sure to leave you feeling BRAND NEW.

After care is incredibly important for any skin care procedure, however Microneedling after care is of great importance considering we are purposefully damaging the skin. Providing the skin with everything it needs to heal and REGENERATE is our goal!

Microneedling is a fabulous, minimally invasive procedure that allows your skin to naturally build collagen, greatly dimish acne scars, dark spots, and smoothes fine-lines and wrinkles. It also stimulates natural growth factors within the skin.

Althought microneedling isn’t nearly as invasive as other procedures, such as botox and cosmetic surgery, it does require a recovery period for optimal results.

At the conclusion of the microneedling appointment your skin will be raw, red, and burning. You may look in the mirror and think “oh my goodness, what have I done?” Please do not fret. Here are your next steps:

 • You will feel soreness and burning immediately following the procedure. Do not take ibuprofen, motrin, or advil as these medications will disrrupt the inflammatory process that is necessary for skin rejuventation. You may only use TYLENOL!
 • The majority of people find that healing process lasts from 2-5 days. During this time, please avoid unnecessary touching of the face.
 • Please avoid sunlight, strenuous exercise, and applying makeup in the 48 hours following your appointment due to sensitive of the skin and open pores.
 • Hault your regular skin care routine for the next 48 hours following your needling treatment. For these 48 hours you will apply nothing to the skin except for cool or luke warm water and pure hyaluronic acid serum.
 • If you have completed your procedure with Glow Skin Care and Laser, we will provide you with hyaluronic acid serum. During the 48 hours following your treatment you will apply the serum (with clean hands, please!) once every two hours or as needed to soothe the skin.
 • After the first 48 hours you may begin to use a gentle cleanser on the skin. If rawness if no longer felt or visible, you may also use a gentle scrub at this time to remove some of the peeling that will begin to occur. As always, do not pick at rawness or peeling skin.
 • 72 hours post treatment you can return to your regual skin care regime.

 • For optimal results, we recommend a follow-up treatment after 4-6 weeks. Please continue to avoid direct sunlight and apply sunscreen regularly for healthy, thriving skin.

Microdermabrasion vs Microneedling https://www.glowskincareandlaser.com/microdermabrasion-vs-microneedling/ Tue, 25 May 2021 19:07:46 +0000 https://www.glowskincareandlaser.com/?p=918 The post Microdermabrasion vs Microneedling appeared first on Glow Skin Care and Laser.

]]>

It’s the year 2021 and the Fountain of Youth is for sale if you know what you’re looking for. Unfortunately for many of us, when we begin our research on how to obtain an enviable youthful glow, we are met with pages upon pages of eye raising procedures, some resembling those of medieval medical practices. My purpose here today is to provide even a morsel of clarification between two commonly confused and mistaken skin care procedures, Microdermabrasion and Microneedling

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion treatments use a mildly abrasive hand held instrument to gently and thoroughly sand your skin, removing the damaged, uneven outer layer.

You may hear of diamond tip, crystal, or hydro microdermabrasion. These are the 3 different instrument methods used for the procedure. Diamond tip instruments use a very fine diamond tip to exfoliate the outer layers whereas crystal instruments create a “sandblasting” effect with small crystal particles. Hydro microdermabrasion uses water to remove outer layers and refresh the skin. We use crystals at Glow Skin Care and Laser!

This procedure is most commonly performed on the face and neck.

What is Microdermabrasion recommended for?

Microdermabrasion can be used for both medical and cosmetic purposes. The American Academy of Dermatology Association (AADA) suggests the use of Microdermabrasion for :

 • Dull Complexion
 • Uneven skin tone or texture
 • Age spots
 • Dark spots
 • Melasma

The AADA also states that microdermabrasion can be used in tandem with other anti-aging products as it allows these solutions to penetrate more deeply into the skin’s surface.

Your Appointment

The average microdermabrasion appointments can take from 45 mins – 1.5 hours.

At Glow Skin Care and Laser we offer microdermabrasion on it own and follow the treatment with a mask to sooth the skin (45 minutes appointment). We also offer the option of including the treatment with a full facial which takes 1 hours and 15 minutes, on average.

View our facials here!

Your practitioner may offer microdermabrasion with light therapy treatments. Light waves are able to reach much deeper layers of the skin which allows us treat not only the surface, but what is underneath as well.

For more information on the various light therapy treatments we offer click here!

Our Pricing

Microdermabrasion & Mask $50

Add Microdermabrasion to any facial for $30

Microdermabrasion & Blue Light Treatment $80

Microdermabrasion & Green Light Treatment $80

Microdermabrasion and Red Light Lifting Treatment $90

Add Microdermabrasion to any facial for $30

Number of Treatments

Although we are forever grateful for the advances in skin care technology, microdermabrasion can remove only so many damaged skin layers within one session. It is recommended to return for follow-up microdermabrasion sessions to achieve peak results.

Your skin never stops working for you! Consider including microdermabrasion into your monthly/bimonthly/semi-yearly skin care regime for continuously glowing skin.

Recovery

The beautiful part of this procedure is there is almost no recovery. Your skin will be red and tender immediately following your appointment, however it is most likely you’ll be healed up by the next day.

Everyone is different and so is their skin. If you are unsure of how your skin will react to your first treatment, I recommend scheduling your appointment the day before a day off or a “down day”.

It is important to remember that your skin may be more sensitive following the procedure as outer protective layers have been removed. Take extra precaution to ensure dirt and bacteria do not come into contact with the fresh skin. Avoid touching your face, consider waiting 24-48 hours before applying makeup, and wash your masks!

Results

Following your microdermabrasion treatment you will find yourself with more even, fresh, and glowing skin.

Microneedling

Microneedling is gaining traction in the skin care world due to its wide range of benefits and accessibility. It is a minimally invasive procedure that also uses a handheld device, however the microneedling device contains fine needles that inflict micro-punctures to the skin. These controlled injuries trigger the skin’s natural repair processes stimulating collagen and elastin production.

Collagen and elastin are both structural proteins within the body’s connective tissue. Both functions are essentially to hold us together, however elastin has the added function of allowing skin to “snap back”. Learn more about the benefits of collagen here!

As we age and with exposure to UV rays, tobacco smoke, etc., our body’s natural collagen and elastin production diminishes. The procedure of microneedling tells the skin to direct large amounts of healing and regeneration to the treated area, which in turn induces the production of fresh skin cells, collagen, and elastin.

What Makes Microneedling Different From Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion removes damaged and exposed outer skin layers to reveal the fresh undamaged layers underneath, but how do we address deeper skin imperfections such as scarring and deep wrinkles? Different from microdermabrasion, microneedling uses it’s micro-puncturing method to create “channels” and controlled distruption to layers that can otherwise only be accessed through light therapy and laser treatments.

Microdermabrasion REMOVES & REFRESHES, whereas microneedling’s punctures STIMULATES HEALING, GROWTH, & REGENERATION of new skin cells, collagen, and elastin.

What is Microneedling recommended for?

This procedure can also be used for both medical and cosmetic purposes. The American Academy of Dermatology Association (AADA) suggests Microneedling may improve:

 • Fine lines and wrinkles
 • Large pores
 • Scars
 • Acne Scars
 • Uneven skin texture
 • Stretchmarks
 • Brown spots or hyperpigmentation

We recommend microneedling for those looking to heal imperfections that imbed themselves below the skin’s superficial surface such deep wrinkles, scarring, sun damage, uneven skin, loose skin, and large pores.

Your Appointment

A small disclaimer: there will be some blood but don’t worry!

During the needling process, blood appearing on the skin’s surface is an indication that the needles have punctured to the appropriate depth and have created the desired “channels” for healing and nourishment.

You might be wondering, does it hurt?

As you arrive for your appointment with Glow Skin Care and Laser we apply a medical grade topical anesthetic cream to the treatment area for numbing. The cream requires 45 minutes to reach optimal effectiveness. During the needling treatment you may feel pressure and some pinching, however it is otherwise a comfortable experience.

Once the numbing process has been completed, the practitioner will needle the desired areas using the handheld device while simultaneously applying hyaluronic acid to the area. You may hear a whirring, slurping sound during the procedure.

The channels created within the skin during microneedling also allow for nourishing hyaluronic acid, to be applied to ordinarily untouched layers. As the hyaluronic serum and your blood combine, both substances are able to seep deep into these channels, applying nourishment and kickstarting healing.

Some practitioners provide microneedling with plasma-rich platelets (PRP) which separates platelets from the blood of the person having the procedure and utilizes them during the treatment. Unfortunately we do not offer microneedling with PRP however you can click here to learn more!

Microneedling can take 1 hour and 15 min – 2.5 hours depending on the area of the procedure. This includes numbing time.

Our Pricing

Microneedling Face $150

Microneedling Face & Neck $200

Please contact us for pricing for unlisted areas

Number of Treatments

For optimal results, microneedling requires at least 3 treatments 6-8 weeks apart. Results can be seen after the first treatment however the number of treatments required for complete & truly life changing results depends on the individual and their skin. You will be noticeably red and may feel some residual soreness following your appointment. We recommend booking your appointment for a time when you are able to get to the comfort of your own home immediately after.

We also recommend you book your needling appointment when your schedule allows you to take at least 2 days for recovery. Your freshly needled skin will require special attention and rest as the healing process begins.

For 2 days you will need to halt your regular skin care routine, and wash your skin with only water. You will be provided with hyaluronic acid serum to apply every 2-3 hours for 2 days.

Once your skin loses it’s freshly needled “raw” look, after about 2-4 days, you can begin to use a gentle cleanser. As skin becomes healed but flakey, you may use a scrub and gently exfoliate away the skin particles. You may return to your usual skin care regime after the healing has been completed.

Similarly to microdermabrasion, your skin will be sensitive and exposed following the procedure. Take extra precaution to ensure dirt and bacteria do not come into contact with the treated skin. Rest, avoid touching your face, and wash your masks!

Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions during recovery.

Results

Microneedling is able to address a number of imperfections because it is designed to stimulate the processes your body already has in order to heal and produce collagen and elastin. As you continue with your suggested treatments your skin will become clear and more firm as your body begins to heal and regenerate from the micro-injuries created by the needles.

Conclusion

Microdermabrasion is great for a deep refreshing or routine clean-up of exposed and damaged outer layers. It requires almost no recovery and is a great option for those looking to clean up slight imperfections and brighten their complexion.

For individuals searching for a more intense and permanent solution for deeper imperfections (scarring, large pores, loose skin, uneven skin, etc.) without dropping crazy coin on botox and other cosmetic procedures, microneedling may be right for you!
